Austin Wayne Self Finishes Second at Winchester and wins the SCOTT Rookie Challenge.

Approaching Indiana Austin Wayne Self set his sights high and most definitely delivered. “I really enjoy running double duty, it gives me more time in the race car and on the race track.” –AWS. In a double duty weekend Austin raced both Saturday in the #54 Scott Neal Dodge Super Late Model and Sunday in the #22 AMTS Cunningham Dodge in the ARCA Series. In the ARCA series Austin Wayne Self looked optimistically towards the front of the field and never dropped outside of the top 10 throughout the entire race. Upon catching P3 the caution came out, the 22 team pitted and fell back to 7th then raced their way back to P2. A late race caution came out with 20 laps to go, Self moved aggressively towards the front of the field and finished second in Sunday’s Herr’s Chase the Taste 200 after battling aggressively and showing intrepid race craft for a rookie against seasoned veterans. “I was somebody Frank had to worry about and keep behind him, I was able to learn from him and the next race he might have to worry about us. I think I earned a lot of respect from him, and he’s won 79 races, and I came out of no where so that was a major accomplishment. Cunningham gave me such a good car. We ran an incredible race and given a few more laps we could have won. I learned so much and I just think we proved what a strong team we have.” –AWS. Austin Wayne Self also was awarded the SCOTT Rookie Challenge; Self became the seventh driver to win a SCOTT Rookie Challenge race award in the 2013 season. This is an incredible honor for Austin who had this to say, “I really feel like we turned a lot of heads, and I can’t wait to get back out and get racing again.”-AWS

The Herr’s Chase the Taste 200 will also be the first ARCA Racing Series race that will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network. NBC Sports Network’s ARCA racing coverage premieres Thursday, August 1, at 11 p.m. ET with the Winchester race.
