SELF SWEPT UP IN BIG WRECK, DASHING HOPES FOR VICTORY AT DAYTONA

AUSTIN, Texas (Feb. 20, 2016)– At Daytona International Speedway, the line between putting oneself in strong position to challenge for possible race victory and being swept up in a mess not of one’s making is razor-thin, as rookie Austin Wayne Self discovered en route to a 19th place finish in the NCWTS NextEra Energy Resources 250 on Friday.

Self, a rookie who qualified 19th for the season-opening race in his No. 22 AM Technical Solutions/Black’s BBQ Toyota Tundra, displayed patience and poise in a steady progression toward the front of the pack, charging into the top-10 by the race’s halfway mark and to a 6th-place spot with just over thirty laps to go.

aws2Self maintained strong competitive position as the laps wound down and the pack tightened, running on the fringe of the top-10 with ten laps remaining. Then, the big-wreck bite for which Daytona is known reared its head, gobbling up sixteen trucks in twisted collision carnage, including Self’s, which sustained major left side damage. The pileup pulled Self from the lead pack and ended any shot at possible victory.

“We had a great run going all night with our No. 22 AM Technical Solutions /Black’s BBQ Toyota, and I’m so proud of our team for all of their hard work,” Self said. “We were running up there just outside the top-5 for a while, running with the leaders, but we just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when the wreck occurred. It was one of those things that was out of our control. It’s unfortunate, because our guys had worked so hard and given me a really strong truck to drive. I’m proud of their effort in getting the truck fixed so that I was able to get back out there and finish the race.”

Next up for Self and the No. 22 AM Technical Solutions/Black’s BBQ Toyota Tundra is the Great Clips 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, February 27. The race will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 beginning at 4:30pm EST. Race coverage may also be heard on MRN Radio.

ACE Asphalt Joins the AWS Racing Team For Remainder of ARCA Season

Texas Company, ACE Asphalt, Becomes a Figurative Rally Cap as They Join the AWS Racing Team for the Remainder of the ARCA Racing Season in Pursuit of the Championship

ACE Asphalt_Victory Lane_9_12_15Austin, Texas — Texas companies continue to rally behind young race car driver, Austin Wayne Self. ACE Asphalt, one of the largest road and parking lot construction companies in the country, joined the AWS Racing team for the remainder of the ARCA and Central Texas Speedway race season. Throughout the season, Self and his team made it their goal to help serve Texas businesses by spreading the word about Texas companies during the race season. Since the beginning of the season, Self has acquired over ten Texas-based sponsors that he represents on the track.

ACE Asphalt saw a great potential in joining the AWS Racing team. The young driver is currently third in the running for the ARCA Championship and second for the ARCA Short Track Challenge Championship. With one of his best performing short tracks coming up, the decision was a no brainer,

“ACE Asphalt is proud to partner with Texas Driver, Austin Wayne Self, in pursuit of the ARCA race series Championship. Like Austin, we share a passion for asphalt. So it only makes sense to support a great representative of the racing industry and the great state of Texas.” – Travis Berry, Director of Sales

Travis Berry got it right when he spoke about the pair’s passion for asphalt. When you think about all of the traveling this kid does, tests, practices and races, he probably spends the majority of his time during the season rollin’ and racin’ on asphalt.

ACE Asphalt_LeadingThe company got their first taste of a successful partnership with the AWS Racing team this past weekend at Central Texas Speedway (CTS). Self made the journey back to Texas during his weekend off in the ARCA Series to hop into a late model at his home track, CTS. This was the first race that the AWS crew would be featuring new partner, ACE Asphalt on the hood of their race machine. Self started the late model race in the 4th spot and took his team all the way to Victory Lane!

Victory Lane_CTS_9_12_15“It’s always exciting to gain a new partnership in this sport. It’s even more exciting when we can take those partners to Victory Lane, especially during their first time being featured on the race car! I hope this got ACE Asphalt stoked for the next round. I’d like to keep the momentum going into Salem this weekend and grab two Victories in two different series, two weeks in a row.” – Austin Wayne Self

Self heads to Salem Speedway this weekend for the final short track race of the ARCA season. Self has performed well here in the past and will look to take the ARCA Short Track Challenge Championship by the end of the night at Salem. Austin Wayne Self Heads to Southern Illinois for His Second Dirt Race of the Season

RichCorbett_Illinois_AWS 3(Mooresville, N.C.  September 2, 2015-) Austin Wayne Self (AWS) driver of the No. 98 AM Technical Solutions Ford for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) gears up for the final dirt race of the 2015 season at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will be the only national touring series racing on Labor Day Monday, September 7th. Last month Self raced inside the top-five all afternoon at the Illinois State Fairgrounds until a last lap incident resulted in the 19-year-old finishing in the 10th position.

“The dirt races are quite unpredictable,” Self stated. “You never know what kind of race were going to see. I knew Springfield was going to get wild with a last lap restart and unfortunately we got caught up in an incident in the final corner.”

Rich Corbett Photography“You always see a lot of green flag racing on the dirt tracks so it’s important to have a great long run car and not abuse your equipment early.”

“We’ve had great runs over the last five races, unfortunately we have had rotten luck. I really want to get AM Technical Solutions, Pirate Energy and all of the guys at MMM another win before the season is over.”

This Monday’s race marks the 10th of 11 races for the Calypso Lemonade Short Track Challenge for the 2015 season. AWS sits second in points, trailing leader Kyle Weatherman by 50 markers. Self’s worst finish on the short tracks in 2015 is a 10th place finish.

With four races remaining the championship battle is heating up. 2014 Scott Rookie of The Year AWS sits third in points 180 behind leader Grant Enfinger. Self gained 45 points with his tenth place finish at Springfield last month.

Illinois_AWSRacing 3Chassis: Self will race chassis No. 593 out of the MMM stable. AWS last raced 593 at the Pocono Raceway last month to a seventh place finish. Chassis 593 has six prior starts with one win, four top-5 finishes and five top-10’s.

AWS on Dirt: AWS has three prior starts on dirt in the ARCA Racing Series all equaling top-10 finishes.

The ARCA Racing Series gears up for the final dirt race of the 2015 season at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the Southern Illinois 100 on Monday, September 7th. The race will be live on the ARCA Radio Network beginning at 2:30 p.m. EST. Austin Wayne Self Post Race Report: SuperChevyStores.com 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds

AWSRacing_Springfield(Mooresville, NC, August 24, 2015–) Austin Wayne Self (AWS) driver of the No. 98 AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) positioned himself for a solid top-five finish in the ChevySuperStores.com 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Sunday afternoon.

Self was battling for a top-five finish on the final lap when mayhem ensued in the final corner. The 2014 Scott Rookie of The Year was caught up in a last lap incident relegating him to 10th in the final running order.

“I knew it was going to get crazy during that restart with two laps to go,” Self stated. “Anything goes on the final lap and everyone was battling hard in turn four and a couple of guys made contact and unfortunately we got caught up in the wreck. Our car was really good on the long runs, I wished we had a long green flag run to finish the race.”

“It’s unfortunate, we positioned ourselves inside the top-five all day long and to have it slip away in the final corner is very disappointing. These guys at MMM work around the clock to prepare good racecars.”

“We still have four more races to get back to victory lane in 2015. I think we’re going to be pretty strong down the stretch.”

Rain was the name of the theme Sunday morning at the 1.0 mile dirt track shortening ARCA practice by 25 minutes and canceling Menards pole qualifying. That meant the field would lineup based off of 2015 owners points placing Self fifth on the grid for the 100 lap event.

When the green flag waved on the 16th race of the 2015 season the caution quickly waved as the field was slowed by two early cautions in the first 12 laps.

Springfield_2On the ensuing restart at lap 14 Self would get trapped on the outside line and lose three spots pushing him back to the seventh position. The Austin, Texas native would exert patience and worked his way around the 69 and 16 to move back into the top five before the caution waved for the third time at lap 31.

Crew chief Danny Johnson brought Self down pit-road for four Hoosier racing tires and fuel. The No. 98 team sent AWS back to the track in the sixth spot.

Self spent the second half of the race saving his equipment positioning himself for a sprint to the finish. Self began catching Frank Kimmel and Josh Williams for the runner-up spot at lap 75. Self was able to move around Kimmel before smoke erupted from the back of the No. 25 car which would bring out the caution.

A series of late race cautions set up a two lap sprint to the checkered flag. Self was battling for a top-five finish in turn four on the final lap when drivers made contact and the second year driver got caught up in the incident. Self’s No. 98 would sustain right front damage and would cross the finish line in the 10th spot.

With his 12th top-10 finish of the 2015 season Self was able to gain valuable championship points on leader Grant Enfinger who finished 21st and now trails Enfinger by 180 points with four races remaining in the 2015 season.

The ARCA Racing Series will enjoy a weekend off before gearing up for the final dirt race of the 2015 season at the “Magic Mile” the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the Southern Illinois 100 on Monday, September 7th. The race will be live on the ARCA Radio Network beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.. ARCA will also have live timing and scoring for all on-track activity presented by AM Technical Solutions and Pirate Energy.

Austin Wayne Self is Confident Racing on Ultra High Banked Winchester Speedway

Short track(Mooresville, N.C.  June 23, 2015-) Last weekend at the Chicagoland Speedway, Austin Wayne Self (AWS), driver of the No. 98 AM Technical Solutions Ford for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) was headed towards tying his career best finish in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Self was running in the second position until contact with Matt Tifft cut his left-rear tire resulting in a 12th place finish.

Self and the MMM crew turn their attention towards Indiana’s fastest half-mile the Winchester Speedway located in Winchester, Indiana for the Herr’s Chase The Taste 200.

In 2013 Self turned heads at the Winchester Speedway finishing runner-up in just his second ARCA Racing Series event. The finish put the Austin, Texas native on the map nationally.

“We came so close to winning this race two years ago,” Self stated. That race really put me on the map as a driver and I was able to get a lot of notice from different people in the garage.”

“Our short track package has been excellent in 2015, our worst finish is sixth at Toledo last month. We had a great test earlier this week at Winchester and learned a lot that we can apply to the race this weekend.”

“The MMM team is really hungry for our first win together and I thought we had a great chance last weekend before the contact with the 52. I really like our chances this weekend to end up in victory lane. MMM has some unfinished business at Winchester.”

The race also marks the fifth race in the Calypso Lemonade Short Track Challenge for 2015. Self is second in Short Track points only five points behind Kyle Weatherman. Self’s average finish in four short track races in 2015 is an impressive 4.0.

MMM finished second last year at Winchester with driver and owner Mason Mitchell behind the wheel at the ultra-high banked track.

short track_2Chicagoland Review: Self started from the 4th position and would race in the top-five all afternoon. During his only pit-stop at lap 65 the No. 98 crew gained Self valuable spots and sent him back on track in the third positon. On the final restart Self made a three-wide pass for second and race in the second position until 20 laps to go. Tifft made contact with Self’s left-rear tire resulting in a flat tire. Self brought the No. 98 home in the 12th positon.

Chassis: Self will race chassis No. 588 out of the MMM stable. Chassis 588 has nine prior starts earning four top-five finishes and seven top-tens.

Cut Tire Spoils Austin Wayne Self’s Bid for Victory at Chicagoland

chicago_2(Joliet, Ill, June 20, 2015–) Austin Wayne Self (AWS), driver of the No. 98 AM Technical Solutions Ford Fusion for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) appeared to be headed towards a career best finish in the Scott 150 at the Chicagoland Speedway Saturday afternoon. Self was racing in the second position with 20 laps remaining when contact with another car cut down his left rear tire.

Self was able to maneuver the No. 98 car down pit-road to receive four new tires.  Self returned to the race to gain valuable positions before the conclusion of the race and finish in the 12th position.

“This was a difficult end to a great weekend,” Self stated after the Scott 150. “We weren’t that good in practice and we changed everything on the car Saturday morning before qualifying and the car responded.

“We fought all day and positioned ourselves for a solid finish. I don’t know if we could have caught the No. 58 but it was going to be a solid top-three.”

“I hate it for everyone on this MMM crew because they work endlessly to provide me with great cars. I know we will be fast at Winchester next weekend, it’s one of my favorite tracks on the ARCA schedule.”

Self qualified the No. 98 in the fourth position for the tenth race of the 2015 ARCA season.

The 2014 Scott Rookie of the Year would race in the top-five all afternoon and made his only pit-stop under caution at lap 65. The No. 98 crew sent AWS back on-track in the third position.

Self made a three-wide pass on Matt Tifft and Frank Kimmel on a restart at lap 72 to move into the second positon. Self continued to battle Tifft for the runner-up spot when Tifft made contact with AWS resulting in a flat left rear tire. The second year driver was able to keep the car off of the inside wall and bring the car to pit-road.

ChicagoSelf returned to the track two laps down but was able to gain three positions in the final 15 laps to finish 12th.

Next week at Winchester marks the fifth round of the Calypso Lemonade Short Track Challenge. Self enters the race second in Calypso Short Track Challenge points trailing Kyle Weatherman by just five points.
