ARCA Rookie Points Leader Focuses on Toledo Speedway!

On May 18th Austin Wayne Self and the 22 AM Technical Solutions Dodge will steer their way into Ohio for the Menards 200 at Toledo Speedway. At Talladega, Austin Wayne Self made a remarkable impression for his first Superspeedway start. AWS finished third and captured P1 in Rookie of the Year standings as well as a 7th in overall points standings. This momentum will be a valuable asset as the teams now approach Toledo.

“I am really focused towards Toledo. We are going to be really fast, and I am putting attention towards our qualifying run. Toledo is a fast, fun track. The long sweeping turns make for good side by side racing, it’s fun to make passes off the turns, I come from a short track racing background and I feel confident at Toledo Speedway.”-AWS

In 2013 Austin Wayne Self actually made his ARCA Racing Series debut at Toledo Speedway with a P6 finish after starting 10th. Looking back to 2013 of his 6 ARCA racing series starts Austin Wayne Self finished within the top 10, 5 times. Looking at 2014, in only three starts Austin Wayne Self has racked up 2, top 5 finishes. If he finishes within the top 5 at Toledo Speedway, he will have earned his 3rd consecutive top 5 finish. For the past 5 years, the 22 car has finished within the top 10 at Toledo Speedway, this year Austin Wayne Self could drive into the 6th consecutive top 10 finish for the double deuces.

Earlier in the week Austin Wayne Self and the entire Cunningham team spent time testing at Toledo to prepare for this weekend’s race, despite rain throughout the practice session Austin was able to gain a reintroduction to the track.

“We are definitely focusing on everything being in place for this race, tire conservation, stops, adjustments, and even communication are all aspects of development and focus for our team.”-AWS

The half mile asphalt oval of Toledo Speedway encourages cage to cage racing on the 12 degrees of banking. This exciting short track is a gem on the ARCA series schedule. This style of racing exhibits Austin Wayne Self’s best driving characteristics and it is sure to be an exciting race.

“I am ready to get out there and race, we have such a solid momentum going and the entire team is ready to battle it out on the short track!”

The weekend’s activities include two ARCA Racing Series practice sessions Saturday, May 17 from 11:45-12:30 and 1-1:45, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 3:30.
