Austin Wayne Self is Confident Racing on Ultra High Banked Winchester Speedway

Short track(Mooresville, N.C.  June 23, 2015-) Last weekend at the Chicagoland Speedway, Austin Wayne Self (AWS), driver of the No. 98 AM Technical Solutions Ford for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) was headed towards tying his career best finish in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Self was running in the second position until contact with Matt Tifft cut his left-rear tire resulting in a 12th place finish.

Self and the MMM crew turn their attention towards Indiana’s fastest half-mile the Winchester Speedway located in Winchester, Indiana for the Herr’s Chase The Taste 200.

In 2013 Self turned heads at the Winchester Speedway finishing runner-up in just his second ARCA Racing Series event. The finish put the Austin, Texas native on the map nationally.

“We came so close to winning this race two years ago,” Self stated. That race really put me on the map as a driver and I was able to get a lot of notice from different people in the garage.”

“Our short track package has been excellent in 2015, our worst finish is sixth at Toledo last month. We had a great test earlier this week at Winchester and learned a lot that we can apply to the race this weekend.”

“The MMM team is really hungry for our first win together and I thought we had a great chance last weekend before the contact with the 52. I really like our chances this weekend to end up in victory lane. MMM has some unfinished business at Winchester.”

The race also marks the fifth race in the Calypso Lemonade Short Track Challenge for 2015. Self is second in Short Track points only five points behind Kyle Weatherman. Self’s average finish in four short track races in 2015 is an impressive 4.0.

MMM finished second last year at Winchester with driver and owner Mason Mitchell behind the wheel at the ultra-high banked track.

short track_2Chicagoland Review: Self started from the 4th position and would race in the top-five all afternoon. During his only pit-stop at lap 65 the No. 98 crew gained Self valuable spots and sent him back on track in the third positon. On the final restart Self made a three-wide pass for second and race in the second position until 20 laps to go. Tifft made contact with Self’s left-rear tire resulting in a flat tire. Self brought the No. 98 home in the 12th positon.

Chassis: Self will race chassis No. 588 out of the MMM stable. Chassis 588 has nine prior starts earning four top-five finishes and seven top-tens.

The Herr’s Chase The Taste 200 at the Winchester Speedway will be live on the CBS Sports Network Sunday, June 28th beginning at 2:00 p.m. EST.  Arcaracing.com will have live timing and scoring presented by Pirate Energy and AM Technical Solutions for all on-track activity.
