Austin Wayne Self Returns to Racing in Texas

Houston Motorsports ParkAustin, Texas (August 14, 2012) – NASCAR’s next superstar and Texas native, Austin Wayne Self, will mark his first return to racing in the Lone Star State since 2011 when he takes the wheel in the No. 8.5 Sport Clips Haircuts Truck this Saturday night at Houston Motorsports Park (HMP).

Part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, the trucks will race a double feature of 30 laps each at the 3/8-mile oval.

Self has spent 2012 competing under the Sellers Racing banner in the No. 07 Sport Clips/Big Red Chevy in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Division, racing throughout the Southeast in search of his first national championship.

“I raced one truck race last year for Ed (Nastasi) and Jim (Nides) and the folks at Nastasi Racing and really enjoyed it.” And it’s obvious Self has been looking forward to coming back to where his NASCAR career started. “It’s going to be awesome to get back to racing in front of my friends and family who are making the trip to HMP.

“With my first ARCA race coming up next year, we’ve been busy getting ready and this is going to be really cool to get a chance to go out and just have fun. A big thanks goes out to Ed, Jim and Sport Clips for giving me the opportunity.”

All the action at HMP starts at 7 p.m. and is located only 20 minutes outside of downtown Houston. For fans that can’t make it, catch all the racing action online and check out facebook.com/austinwself or on Twitter @austinwself.
