Throughout the week in Daytona, Austin Wayne Self experienced the excitement, adrenaline and history of Speedweek! Despite not being able to race, due to ARCA Racing Series’ age restrictions (Self turns 18 on March 5th), at Daytona International Speedway the team made setting and balance gains that will come to surface later in the season. Self was allowed to test on Thursday and was awarded with starting points in order to keep him eligible to compete for the ARCA Championship.
Austin Wayne Self stayed throughout every practice, qualifying and of course the LucasOil 200 ARCA Race at Daytona to support his team. Austin stated, “It is really hard to watch and not be racing. I want to be out there so bad, but I am happy for Tom and Tyler and our whole Cunningham team.”
To maintain points the 22 Cunningham AM Technical Solutions Dodge was piloted by Tyler Reddick who finished P5, right behind teammate Tom Hessert. This team accomplishment proved to be inspiring to AWS who commented, “This is really good for the team and it shows we have the equipment and capabilities to compete with the best.”
Austin now looks forward to his turn behind the wheel. On March 22nd Austin will have the opportunity to put his off-season work to the test and get back on the track in true race form! For updates and news follow Austin Wayne Self on Twitter @AustinWSelf and Facebook.Com/AustinWSelf .
