Michigan International Speedway Race Notes:aws13

Austin Wayne Self, driver of the No.22 AM Technical Solutions Toyota, finished 16th in Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) campaign at Michigan International Speedway, giving the rookie driver his seventh top-20 finish of the season.

After starting 24th, AWS paced himself early – tucking into the lead draft at the onset of the 100-lap event on Michigan’s 2-mile surface.  Riding most of the race comfortably inside the top-20, Self, began his ascent towards the front by the midway point cracking the top-10 inside the final 20-laps.  Moving up to eighth and eyeing a career best finish, Self-restarted from the fourth row on the final restart of the race.  After a long caution, Self would get a strong jump, entering turns one and two clean, Self would race hard down the backstretch until getting washed up the race track in turn three with less than five laps remaining.  Keeping his Tundra off the outside wall, Self would regain his composure despite losing valuable track position and finishing 16th.

Michigan International Speedway Post Race Quote:

“We had a strong Toyota all day long and were there at the end.  I just lost the nose of the truck going into turn 3 on that final restart – costing us a solid finish.  It was a disappointing finish despite a really solid day.”    -Austin Wayne Self
