Austin Wayne Self will battle for Rookie of the Year honors and a whole lot more as he enters his first season as fulltime driver of the No. 22 Toyota Tundra for AM Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2016.
When it comes to making a strong first impression, Self has a track record of success. He was named Rookie of the Year in the Texas Super Racing Late Model Series in 2010 and the ARCA Racing Series in 2014.
Self finished second in the ARCA Series championship points standings in 2015, collecting twelve top-10 finishes and winning at Winchester along the way. In forty-five career ARCA Series starts, Self racked up thirty top-10 finishes, including thirteen top-5s.
The competitive fire that began to burn in Self as a four year-old racing Go Karts and fueled his rapid rise thru the ranks of stock-car racing (including stints in the Whelen All-American Series and K & N Series) will be on display this season as he forays into NASCAR’S fierce upper echelon.
Self has earned early partnership support for his NCWTS effort from such Lone Star State notables as the Texas Department of Agriculture’s GO TEXAN campaign, Louie Mueller Barbecue. Texas Tea and Don’t mess with Texas.
Away from the race track, Self enjoys playing video games and outdoor activities including longboarding and hiking. He is an avid fan of the TCU Horned Frogs and Cincinnati Bengals.
