Austin Wayne Self, driver of the No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado for Niece Motorsports competes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for Statesville, North Carolina-based Niece Motorsports. The 2018 NCWTS season marks Self’s third year on tour.
While Self is still relatively new to NASCAR, he carries a long list of racing accomplishments under his belt.
His freshman season in NASCAR featured a top-10 finish at Eldora Speedway on the dirt.
His sophomore season in NASCAR featured a second-place finish at Daytona International Speedway.
He was named Rookie of the Year in the Texas Super Racing Late Model Series in 2010 and the ARCA Racing Series in 2014.
Self finished second in the ARCA Series championship points standings in 2015, collecting twelve top-10 finishes and winning at Winchester along the way. In forty-five career ARCA Series starts, Self racked up thirty top-10 finishes, including thirteen top-5s.
The competitive fire that began to burn in Self as a four year-old racing Go Karts and fueled his rapid rise thru the ranks of stock-car racing (including stints in the Whelen All-American Series and K & N Series) will be on display this season as he forays into NASCAR’S fierce upper echelon.
Today, the Austin, Texas native has spent thousands of hours behind the wheel, moving up the ranks from karting to the NASCAR K&N division and Whelen Series’; then onto the ARCA Racing Series and the top-three national divisions of NASCAR.
With his focus, determination and desire to deliver successful on-track results, Self has gained the support of several Texas-based companies and programs which has allowed him to continue his foray in the sport this season.
Self has earned early partnership support for his NCWTS effort from such Lone Star State notables as the Texas Department of Agriculture’s GO TEXAN campaign and Don’t mess with Texas.
Away from the race track, Self enjoys playing video games and outdoor activities including longboarding and hiking. He is an avid fan of the TCU Horned Frogs and Cincinnati Bengals.
